I am not a diarist, and don’t aspire to be one. So, please let’s focus the conversation on topic and not style and I will apologize now for inflicting my bad writing on you. Only Per Fink coming to America could have convinced me to attempt this. I think we owe Per Fink the welcome that he deserves, on behalf of his victim, Karina Hansen.
Per Fink, the man who was responsible for the medical kidnapping of Karina Hansen aka The Prisoner of Denmark, is coming to speak at Columbia University on October 20. In fact, they are offering CME’s (continuing medical education credits) to people who choose to attend. Yes, you can earn CME’s for attending the lecture of a famed Medical Kidnapper. I guess you’ll learn how to use your political influence to put a SWAT team together to burst into the home of a potential patient and research subject, how to drag her away crying and screaming, how to lock her into your laboratory for years, how to keep her family away, and how to use your political influence to have her assigned a submissive state-appointed guardian who will grant you complete control over her, and if she resists because she hates you for what you did to her, how to “diagnose” her resistance as “withdrawal syndrome” and drug her into compliance with toxic levels of psychotropic drugs.
I had previously written a diary on Karina’s plight. Since that time, very long ago, the story has dragged on and on and on. A few days ago, she had a hearing to determine if she could finally get free of her state appointed guardian, and the next court date is 10/10/2018, where I hope that she will finally be free. This is important. They are forcibly drugging her with dangerous anti-psychotics, and recent reports say that autopsies confirm that deceased mental health patients in Denmark are dying from drug poisoning.
Here are some links to Karina’s story. Please, if you have some spare time, dig a little deeper. It’s a heart-wrenching, terrifying, deeply troubling tale.
Lawyer Valerie Elliot Smith, who also has M.E., wrote a series of posts on Karina.
In the early days, there was an English facebook page called Justice for Karina Hansen. It is mostly dormant now, but has some background information.
There is a good overview of her early story here.
The most active page is the Karina Sagen Facebook Page in Danish.
Per Fink is a very ambitious man. He seeks fame and cultivates and wields power. He wants to have his new diagnosis, “Bodily Distress Syndrome”, published in the ICD-11, an international medical diagnostic manual. He will do what he has to do to get what he wants. It is no surprise that he has managed to get himself invited to Columbia to speak. To put it bluntly, the man has an axe to grind, and Karina Hansen is the unfortunate soul who got in the way of Per Fink’s axe – because she had what Per Fink wanted, an ambiguous disease that he could style as a perfect subject for his research, and came complete with government funds that he could funnel into his clinic.
On October 10, Karina Hansen will have a follow up hearing in court to determine if she can get rid of the state appointed guardian. The Karina Sagen page has news on this.
And, on Sept 27 newspapers published that Stig Gerdes got a decision on his case to appeal a suspension of his medical license. Stig Gerdes is a doctor who tried to intervene in Karina’s case and start weaning her off the psychotropic drugs that were at overdose levels in her blood and were making her muscles rigid.
Also, news reports are coming from a study of autopsies of deceased psychiatric patients in Denmark that patients are dying from drug poisoning. This article refers to the fact that psychiatric patients die, on average, 20 years earlier than the rest of the population and at least 10% of cases that researchers examined had been poisoned with psychiatric drugs. One poster child for these drug-related deaths was Sofie Aabling, age 26. This news lends greater urgency to efforts to get the guardianship over Karina ended, so that she can find a doctor to wean her off her drugs and help her start to recover. Right now, her doctors are using the court appointed guardianship to force her to keep taking these drugs. Her blood levels were over the recommended therapeutic limits, and she was experiencing muscle rigidity, a warning sign of toxicity. The guardianship is convenient for doctors, because if the guardianship ends, she can wean herself off mind-altering drugs, and have legal rights to demand her own records, and pursue her own legal cases. Which is why I am not holding my breath, but still hoping she can end her guardianship on 10/10. There is some truly horrendous political corruption in this case. If someone whispered in the right ear, this will keep dragging on and on and on….
While I understand the need for academic freedom, should we really be offering CME’s for what this man has to say? The international medical community is resolved that M.E. is a severe physiological disease that requires metabolic treatment. Denmark and Per Fink are on the fringes of medicine, at odds with International consensus, with their approach to viewing and treating M.E. as a somatoform illness.
But, worse, regardless of various medical opinions on M.E., there is the very basic principle that human beings have rights, patients have rights, women have rights and young adults have rights. One of the most profound rights than any person must have is the right to say, “NO” to a person, the right to retain Liberty and Privacy, the right to decide who touches our body. Any person must have the right to say “NO’ to any doctor, just like any person has a right to say “NO” to sex.
Karina Hansen had a right to say “NO” to Per Fink. Per Fink refused to take “NO” for an answer. Per Fink medically kidnapped and medically assaulted Karina Hansen. In fact, Karina Hansen had been previously examined and found mentally competent, and had designated her parents as a medical proxy. She and her parents technically had the right to say “NO” on several legal levels. That is why Per Fink should not be allowed to speak at Columbia, and why we should not be offering CME credits to hear him speak. Because, Per Fink is a Medical Kidnapper who thinks that the right way to get patients is to drag them screaming from their own beds in their own homes, and lock them in his clinic. We need to put our foot down. We need to say, “NO” to Per Fink.
Standing up to Per Fink is just like standing up to Kavanaugh. We need to teach Per Fink this very valuable lesson...
“NO” means “NO”. And, there are consequences for not taking “NO” for an answer. Let’s ruin Per Fink’s big day. It is the least that he deserves.
